The Schools Division of Davao City eyes the delivery of the curriculum anchored with the MATATAG Framework through the consistent introduction of educational innovations to be spearheaded by the master teachers (MT) of the division.

This initiative aligns with Schools Division Superintendent Reynante A. Solitario’s 19-point agenda, which emphasizes the creation of a Master Teachers’ Association. This association aims to enhance the quality of teaching and learning while providing essential technical support to neophyte teachers.

“There are more than a thousand of you Master Teachers in the Division of Davao City and you will assist your schools in our aim to remove illiteracy through the innovations that you will design and share with your colleagues,” SDS Solitario stressed.

During the Master Teachers’ Strategic Direction Conference attended by the presidents of each district and cluster schools at the Division Training Center on January 9, 2024, he emphasized the crucial role that MTs play in schools including the provision of technical assistance, the design of teaching strategies, and the continuous updating of their personal and professional growth.

Education Program Supervisor Dr. Elsie E. Gagabe further underscored the significance of continuous skill enhancement among Master Teachers. This improvement is crucial in providing effective technical assistance, coaching, and mentoring, which the division aims to refine through short courses tailored for master teachers.

Curriculum Implementation Division (CID) Chief Dr. Alma C. Cifra also reminded the MTs of the important role they play in the implementation of Learning Camp Fridays which will commence on January 12.

At the conference, a set of officers for the division level association of MTs was elected and sworn in by SDS Solitario himself.

The elected officers are; Michelle Palmera-President, Bryan Cancio-Vice President, Divilyn Rodriguez-Secretary, Ann Carillo-Treasurer, Ben Bandojo-Auditor, Janice Abrea and Chito Napitan-PIO, Shenie Maria Celendro and Ronel Lupiba-Business Managers.

“I am acknowledging the fact that master teachers like us play a crucial role in DepEd curriculum endeavors being the strong partner of the school heads in providing expertise, mentoring fellow educators, and ensuring effective implementation of educational strategies,” Palmera, the newly-elected MTs President of DepEd Davao City said.

Alongside the preparations for the MTs Summit, SDS Solitario also tackled concerns regarding the master teachers to enhance their morale and reinforce their role as assistant instructional leaders within their respective schools.
