Davao City SPFL Student from Calinan NHS wins First Prize in International HSK Short Video Competition

Reymart Toñacao, a student from Calinan National High School in Davao City, has won the first prize in the 2023 International Chinese Language Day HSK Short Video Competition. The competition received nearly 1000 video works from 94 countries around the world, of which more than 600 excellent works that have passed the preliminary selection have been showcased on the official Bilibili and YouTube platforms of Hankao International.

Toñacao’s video, titled “挑战自我” (Challenging Oneself), is a cinematic short video that follows his learning journey of mastering the Chinese language and exploring a new culture. The video showcases the challenges and triumphs of navigating the learning process in a digital age, and emphasizes the importance of setting goals, working hard, and never giving up on your dreams.
Despite having relatively low view and like counts on YouTube and Bilibili, it was still awarded the first prize, with 50% of the decision based on the total likes from both platforms and 50% based on the experts’ reviews.

As the winner of the competition, Toñacao has also been invited to attend the offline awarding ceremony of this competition, to exchange learning and life experiences with renowned Chinese school presidents and teachers, HSK exam organizers, and international students from around the world, and to celebrate the exciting moment of winning an award.

The awarding ceremony will be held on September 8, 2023 (Friday) from 13:30 to 17:00 at the Tsinghua University Art Museum in Beijing, China.
