July 4, 2023— In a progressive move to better foster the culture of inclusivity and equity in education, all District and Cluster English Coordinators spearheaded by Education Program Supervisor in English, May Ann M. Jumuad, PhD convened in a three-day training on Special Education held at Gaisano Mall of Toril, Davao City.

Recognizing the unique challenges in the field of special education, esteemed persons in the deparrment graced the training starting with the very own Davao City Division Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Reynante A. Solitario, CESO VI; CID Chief, Dr. Alma C. Cifra; Education Program Supervisor in English, Dr. May Ann M. Jumuad; and Division SPED Coordinator, Dr. Johnito O. Galan.

Meanwhile, the City Government of Davao intends to send support to the needs of Special Education of the Davao City Division as per SDS Solitario.

“Nagstorya mi ni Mayor Baste during our LSB Meeting, they will allocate funding (per year) for our schools to augment their assessment (for learners with Special Needs)”, said SDS Solitario.

He also added the implication of the three-day training to all teachers.

“I guess this is timely, because as educators, we really have a profound responsibility to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students can thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.”

The three-day training, which runs from July 4, 6, and 7, aims to upskill English Teachers on handling mainstreamed learners with special needs in formal education setting. It emphasizes the importance of individualized instruction, personalized learning plans, and fostering inclusive classroom environments.

Moreover, as the demand for skilled handling of special education grows, all District and Cluster English Coordinators are expected to craft their action plans and cascade their learnings from the training to their respective stations.
